Reunion with old friends

Reunion with old friends
Daniel Smith Watercolours

How I got over first page in the new sketch book anxiety yesterday… I started swatching. I got out my favourite paint palette full of Daniel Smith watercolours and just reminded myself of the colours I have – yes, it’s been that long! But it was like a reunion with old friends, I could name 90% of the colours as I painted their swatch, which made me smile. (And yes it was very structured with drawn grids to start, but I relaxed more late I promise! I’ll share that too if you want.) Not only did I enjoy the relaxing process of swatching my day away, it helped me get familiar with this new sketchbook. How it holds and reacts to various art materials – which is helpful knowledge to have.

And the swatches got more “relaxed” …eventually! The grid disappeared for the pencils 🙈🤣 (Tell me you’re uptight without telling me you’re uptight!) I really cannot recommend swatching, especially with a good friend and a cup of tea, enough… just watch you don’t put your paintbrush in your tea! 💛
